Kostis Kaffes Receives Google ML and Systems Junior Faculty Award for Second Consecutive Year
Assistant Professor Kostis Kaffes has received a Google Machine Learning and Systems Junior Faculty Award for the second consecutive year. This year’s award recognizes his work on “Efficient and Safe Agentic AI Infrastructure.”
The award supports early-career faculty advancing machine learning and computing systems, providing $100,000 in unrestricted funding to support their research.
Kaffes develops the computing infrastructure needed for AI agents to operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. His research brings together computer systems, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing to support agents that can carry out complex tasks. He is also a founding member of Columbia’s Data, Agents, and Processes Lab (DAPLab), which is building the foundations for AI agents to safely and reliably automate complex work.
