My research interests include natural language processing, syntax, and field linguistics. I am especially interested in computational tools for documenting and studying endangered languages. I am currently working on a project to develop a novel tool for fieldwork based on WordsEye, a text-to-scene system, which can be used to elicit descriptions of scenes and develop formal grammars of spatial relations. My previous research has included creating a grammar for Arrernte (an Australian aboriginal language) in the LFG formalism, detecting emotions from text, deception detection, and extracting pronunciations from the web.
