My research interests are in natural language understanding, focusing on semantic interpretation. My work uses formal methods that combine syntactic parsing, semantic parsing, knowledge representation, and inference to make NLP systems more aware of real world context and background knowledge. As one possible application for this I work on interpreting descriptions of visual scenes and automatically converting textual descriptions into 3D scenes. Although physically located in the SpeechLab, I am a student of Owen Rambow at the Center for Computational Learning Systems.
