My research interests include natural language processing and speech
recognition. I am currently working on hedge detection in the Supreme
Court corpus, where we are trying to find reliable acoustic correlates
of hedging and uncertainty. Ultimately, I am aiming to explore the
relationship between hedging and the power structure of a
conversation, as well as the various other social outcomes of
dialogue. Previously, I have worked on the sociolinguistics of /tr/
affrication in Canadian speech, the phonetics of singing and various
ASR training paradigms.
