PERSIVAL: PErsonalized Retrieval and Summarization of Image, Video And Language resources
Annual Progress Report

The PERSIVAL digital library project involves an interdisciplinary team of participants consisting of 6 major research teams: (1) multimedia search over distributed collections; (2) multimedia resource summarization; (3) query interface and presentation; (4) clinical infrastructure; (5) content and library ; and (6) evaluation. These teams correspond to different components of the system architecture, shown at http://www.cs.columbia.edu/diglib/PERSIVAL. In each section, we overview the progress we have made in each of these teams, followed by a description of the scenario we are working towards.

In the first year of the project, we have continued the three main directions in our work. We are working on development of components of the overall system each within a focused team, on identification of user needs and on a system scenario. In addition, we have worked on definition of system design and interactions between planned components in our bi-weekly group meetings. Finally, in year one, we have developed an integration plan to ensure smooth connection between project teams.
