The role of the evaluation team is to contribute to the PERSIVAL project in
areas related to medical cognition, human-computer interaction and analysis of
user needs.
The McGill group has been involved in the following activities:
- participated in initial planning meetings to identify areas to apply
cognitive methods and identify strategic directions for the project
- developed study designs to be employed in the evaluation of information
extraction and summarization components
- worked on development and refinement of case scenarios (describing real
patient cases) to be used in testing of DLI2 components
- conducted study of information retrieval (with residents and attending
physicians as subjects) for testing and feedback into design of
summarization component
- conducted study involving data collection and analysis of questions asked
during medical rounds - identified potential implications of this as basis
for design of DLI2 computer-based components
- presented work to date and findings (involving the McGill group) to the
DLI2 group at Columbia in New York
- conducted pilot study examining application of usability testing for
evaluation of Web-based health classification schemes
- explored potential application of cognitive methods to the analysis of
user needs regarding visual components of DLI2 (i.e. echograms)
