Overview

I am an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at Columbia University. I am interested in computer systems in a broad sense, including distributed systems, the Web, security and privacy, operating systems, and databases. More specifically, my current research focuses on the challenges and opportunities created by today's emerging technologies, such as the Web, cloud computing, and powerful mobile devices.

At Columbia, I am part of the Software Systems Lab, an energetic group of professors and students working on highly relevant challenges in today's cutting-edge technologies, such as mobile devices, cloud computing, and distributed systems.

I completed my Ph.D. in 2011 at the Computer Science Department at the University of Washington, under the supervision of Professors Steve Gribble, Yoshi Kohno, and Hank Levy. I did my undergraduate studies in my home country, Romania, at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest.

As a graduate student, I won two best paper awards and the First Google Fellowship in Cloud Computing for my research in security and privacy in cloud computing and mobile devices. For other accomplishments, work experience, and further biographical details, please refer to my resume.
