  • Meagan's office hours this week (4/4-4/9) will be Wednesday 5:30pm-7:30pm (instead of MW 3-4pm) Tal's and the rest of the TA office hours will be as usual this week.

  • Office hours this week (3/28-4/1) are as follows:
  • Monday: 1030-1pm CEPSR 714, Meagan
  • 500-615pm TA room, Will
  • Tuesday: 10-12 TA room, Aishwarya
  • Friday 1-230 514 CSB, Tal

  • Tal's office hours this week will NOT be at the usual time tomorrow. Instead, they will be on *Wednesday* from 2-3 and from 4-5. If there is demand, Tal can also hold another office hour on Friday. The TA office hours will all be as usual this week.
  • Next week's office hours will be different than usual due to the midterm and due to the fact Tal is out of town. We will announce the exact schedule for next week.
  • Tal put homework 5 online Monday. It is due this *Thursday* 3/24 at the beginning of class, and *no late homework will be accepted*, so that we can publish solutions that will help you for the midterm next Tuesday. Since this is late, fewer than usual problems were assigned (where you have to do one plus a choice of two others)
  • midterm instructions: closed book, with two double sided "cheat-sheets" allowed.
  • Sample midterm is on courseworks
  • Tal can do a recitation/review session for the midterm on Friday. Please email Tal if you are interested and have time constraints, and also whether there is something in particular you would like her to cover.
  • The material for the midterm (March 29) will include all the material learned in class upto and including yesterday's lecture (ie., to the end of context free langauges), and the relevant homework are HW1-HW5.

  • The grading scheme has changed a little: the final will *not* be cumulative, but rather will cover the second part of the class that was not covered by midterm. The percentages will be 15% for homework, and each of the midterm and final will be somewhere between 40-45% of the grade (the exact number will be announced).

  • Office hours have changed this week. Meagan has office hours from 8-12 Monday, and Will has office hours from 12-2 Wednesday. No other office hours will be held.
  • The midterm will be held on March 29th in class - 02/13/2011

  • There is a typo in problem 4c: L1 is actually the language defined in problem 2a and NOT problem 1a

  • The last problem in HW2 - problem 5 (1.31 in the text book) has been postponed to the next HW

  • Recitation on Friday (2/04) from 3:15pm to 4:30pm, Location:233 Mudd. Please send Meagan (mbt2140 at columbia dot edu) specific topics that you will like her to cover.
