IGERT Traineeship Eligibility

In order to receive the IGERT Fellowship, trainees are must meet the following requirement.

  • Trainees must be a US Citizen/Permanent Resident
  • Trainees must be a full time student
  • Trainees must undertake IGERT related research
  • Trainees must not hold any other paid appointments/jobs within or external to Columbia University
  • Trainees will receive a summer stipend from the IGERT, only if they conduct IGERT related research during the summer semester
  • Trainees must maintain high academic performance and consistently meet the rules and requirements of the trainee's home department/college
  • Trainees must fulfill all of the responsibilities of IGERT program

IGERT Traineeship Responsibilities

IGERT Trainees are expected to fulfill the following program requirements.

  • Trainees are required to take all IGERT coursework and attend all IGERT seminars, meetings and discussion sessions
  • Trainees are also expected to participate in the IGERT program development and evaluation initiatives and also provide feedback on all program surveys and assessments throughout the entire duration of PhD study at Columbia University
  • Trainees are required to meet with program faculty and advisors on a regular basis for consistent research advisement and support in developing dissertation topics and proposals
  • Trainees are expected to actively contribute to current and future aspects of IGERT programming and initiatives through activities such as the mentoring of new students, academically supporting IGERT coursework and representing the IGERT program nationally and internationally
  • All IGERT Trainees must complete the Responsible Conduct of Research training required by National Science Foundation
