(Answer) (Category) SIP FAQ : (Category) SIP Protocol Operation :
Once a SIP registrar gets a REGISTER request, how does it update the Location Server with the contact information?
This depends on whether the location server is co-located with the SIP registrar or not. If it is, a functional interface (API) suffices to save the location information and any registration payload. If it is not, any protocol or middleware like CORBA, LDAP, RPC, or a database access protocol (e.g., SQL over TCP), can be used. The details are implementation-dependent and outside the scope of the protocol. (Vijay Gurbani)
