Transportation

By Car Service - From New York Airports

Most terminals have a ground transportation desk which will be able to provide you with a list of Car Service companies. A good cheap option is Carmel (Tel. 1-800-9-CARMEL, or 666-6666 when in Manhattan).
If you are in JFK airport, the drive to Arden House is $92 (plus toll and tip). If you are in Newark airport, the drive to Arden House is $126 (plus toll and tip).
Call from the terminal and they should have a car there within 5-10 minutes. Alternatively, for an extra $4 you can arrange for the driver to meet you at baggage reclaim.

By Bus - From Manhattan

The easiest way to get to the conference site on time is by bus. There is a bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) in New York City at 12.10. It is a Short Line bus to Harriman, Monroe, and Washingtonville. Get out at Harriman (Route 17 & 17M). Do not get out at the first bus stop in Harriman, which is the MTA train station, it is a bit farther. If you intend to take this bus, please let us know by email as soon as possible but no later than JUNE 18 so we can arrange for a transportation to the conference site from the bus stop (there may be an additional small fee for this). The bus costs about $13 one-way, slight reduction for round-trip. Purchase tickets before boarding the bus.

Be sure to give yourself enough time to navigate the bus terminal in New York, which is large and confusing. The PABT is at 42nd St and 8th Avenue. There are direct busses to there from all three New York airports (make sure they take you to Port Authority Bus Terminal, not Grand Central Terminal).

For the return trip, there are busses back to PABT which leave at 2.05 and 2.33, taking about 90 minutes.

Here is the web site for the bus line: http://www.shortlinebus.com/. To get to the complete schedule for the relevant bus line, click on "PDF Schedules to and from New York", then click on "Orange County".

By Train - From Manhattan

There is also a train from Hoboken, NJ, but it does not run very frequently. If you arrive at Newark airport too late to make the 12.10 bus from New York, you may instead consider taking a taxi to Hoboken terminal (or take a bus to Newark Penn Station, then PATH from Newark to Hoboken, changing at Journal Square), and catch the NJ Transit/MTA train there to Harriman. It leaves at 1.20 and gets into Harriman at 2.29, too late for the first session. While there is an easy connection from Manhattan on the PATH train (from 33rd Street and 6th Avenue, with additional stops on 6th Avenue and in the Village), there is no reason to take the train if you are coming from Manhattan. If you think you need to take this train, please email us as soon as possible but no later than JUNE 18 so we can arrange transportation from the train station.

For the return, there is a train at 1.38 from Harriman, which gets into Hoboken at 3.07. Again, this is only useful if you have a flight you must catch at Newark.

By car

If you want to rent a car, the best is to get a flight into Newburgh-Stewart airport. Several airlines have jet flights, fares may be similar to those into NYC airports. The conference site is very close to Newburgh airport. >From Newark airport, it is also fairly easy to rent a car and drive. Driving through New York City from LaGuardia or JFK can be a bit challenging. You will not need a car at the conference site.
