Abstract:
EEE 802.11 wireless LANs (WLANs) have been rapidly
deployed
all over the world at numerous cities, enterprises and universities.
These networks provide high bandwidth to mobile users by deploying
low-cost wireless access points. Today, billions of mobile devices use
IEEE 802.11 technology for numerous applications. In spite of their
success, WLANs suffer from several serious shortcomings, including lack
of fair service and inability to provide quality of service (QoS)
guarantees to real-time (RT) applications. In this talk, I will show
the fairness limitations of WLANS with simple examples and discuss the
challenges of providing fairness as well as QoS support in WLANs
without changing the standard.
Bio: Yigal Bejerano is currently a member of the technical staff (MTS) at Bell Laboratories, Alcatel-Lucent. He received his B.Sc. in Computer Engineering in 1991 (summa cum laude) , his M.Sc. in Computer Science in 1995, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2000, from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. His research interests include management aspects of high-speed and wireless networks. He holds over 60 filed and pending patent applications and he has published over 50 peer-reviewed research papers at the leading conferences and journals of the networking community.
