This will be the first of the Digital Government Research Center (DGRC) Evaluation Group Meetings to be held as part of the evaluation component of the project. The DGRC is funded by the National Science Foundation Digital Government program, and is a joint effort between Columbia University and the University of Southern California. See www.dgrc.org and www.cs.columbia.edu/digigov.
The purpose of this small and focused meeting is to build a community around researchers and practitioners who are specifically interested in the evaluation of new systems for accessing government data. At the moment, this fills a gap in the Digital Government program for both input and feedback from a wide range of specialists in meeting the needs of users.
The evaluation board consists of a group of people who work with users in different ways, e.g. as librarians, as cognitive psychologists, as data suppliers, etc. The goal is to father many perspectives to create a fuller view of the entire evaluation process. The purpose of this meeting is to collectively work on evaluation of evaluation, and therefore the structure will allow for collaboration and discussion.
