Feb 2 1996 11:30 AM Noticed a vertical shift in sample at same position as viewed from position 1 and 6 Tried taking images from camera position 1, moving camera then returning camera to position 1 and taking another picture. A large vertical shift was noticed (about 10-20 pixels). Tried taking a picture and and shaking the tripod while it remained in position holders... a vertical shift was noticed again. Did the same test but with tripod out of holders ... again a vertical shift was noticed although it was a smaller vertical shift. Don't have a solution for this instability... will continue 12:30 Changing grid to a metal plate so that the center can be determined exaclty and the sample calibration can run automatically, without checking that the photometer is looking at the center. 2:00PM starting sampl1, setting diaphragm 2:15PM noticed light was dim.. bulb had melted trying halogen lamp 2:20PM repeating daily calibration voltage = 11.95 2:53PM completed gray card 16 pictures (179 was last picture) at 15 sec 1 cycle integration time 2:53PM starting gray strip calibration changed integration time to 5 sec 1 cycle because of overload at nr 4 to 10 sec, 1 cycle at nr 7 to 20 sec. 1 cycle at nr 10 to automatic, it took 60 seconds at nr 11 to 40 sec, 1 cycle at nr 14 i got low signal but saved anyway at nr 15 to automatic at nr 16 50 seconds gave low signal saved anyway to file number 199 from nr 17-19 also gave low signal saved anyway measurement from nr 18 repeeated because paper was slightly off base causing a specularity (repeated measurement in 203-02.feb) (202-02.feb is strip19) color strip first one on automatic, second on 10000 did not rename the photometer files there is one photometer file too many. 206 and 207 are probably from equal strips. 5:41PM white balance at r+5, b-15 diaphragma between 5.6 and 4, closer to 5.6 p93 at 23, l at 168, z at 330 height difference from upper grid row to middle is 23 mm between middle and lowest is 21 mm integration time at 5000 ms, low signal for the last two (67.5 and 78.75). Something went wrong in the first serie, one of the 8 files is missing there. files go from 218 to 243. getting the center of the sample in the center of the image is difficult. pushing the camera leads to shifts in both the horizontal and the vertical direction. 6:34PM started actual measurements. Feb 3 9:50 AM turned lamp on checking tape backup by comparing 2 files (not the best check) will do an another tape back up after collecting the rest of sample1 10:20 completed compare of the two files on tape drive, labelling tape Tape 1A: sample 0 and part of sample 1 10:20 lamp voltage = 11.95 V 10:25 AM moved to camera position 2 starting measurements 11:AM moved to camera position 3 started measurements 11:21 moved to camera position 4 started measurements 11:35 moved to camera position 5 started measurements note that the block between position 5 and position 6 is cracked moved to position 6 (also note crack with shared block of position 5) 12:00PM moved to position 7 , started measurements Note: for positions 3 to 7 checked video preview while sample was facing camera at theta = 0 and adjust tripod/ camera to center image of sample, then checked that camera was horizontal with the balance IMPORTANT: the images taken at camera position 7 were mostly saturated 12:03 PM going to do a truncated lamp calibration to test illumination I'm measuring gray strip 0, 5, 10, 15 , 18% gray card and cyan(which looks blue)/green/red both light and dark. (as always the order is left to right top to bottom) Photometer at position 1, sample alpha = 0 beta = 0. (frontal to lamp) strip0 5 sec 1cycle strip5 10 sec 1 cycle strip10 40 sec 1 cycle strip15 60 sec 1 cycle 18% gray card 15 sec color strips 10 sec (bright) color strips 20 sec (dark) but last one (dark red was overload with 20 so changed to 10 and the file is 254-03.feb) filenames 244-0.feb to 254-03.feb 12:40PM completed truncated calibration moved files to sample1 directory 1:05 I've been looking over the log and noticed one of the sample calibration files is missing. I'm redoing the sample calibration. First file is 255-03.feb -262-03.feb (got low sig for 78.75 write anyway) ignore 263-03.feb moved to middle position by moving photometer by hand then used program to adjust sample angle (264-03.feb first file of middle row) noticed that photometer was not lined up with center (about width of spot off) this must be because I had to restart texture-measurement program (272-03.feb first file of third row) 1:40 completed
