Abstract for group Telephone We plan on using the included stereo codec (AK4565) for audio input and output with a simple microphone (pre-amplified as necessary) and speaker set up. We will digitize the raw audio data to the VoIP standard format, G.729 mu- or a-law (depending on feasibility of each), and then packetize the encoded audio per the standard for transmission via Ethernet. Our internet phone will conform to the SIP draft standard for only making calls and receiving calls. We do not plan on implementing functionality such as conference calling, call waiting, transferring, and the like. We will, given the permission of the developers, build upon the Ethernet transmission capabilities created by team JAYCam (Spring, 2004) such that we can also receive incoming audio packets. We will also implement a function for entering account information and dialing via the keyboard and serial connection.
