PAPER REVIEW INSTRUCTIONS

We are using HotCRP, an open-source conference management
system, to manage your reviews for this class' papers. This
software is used by most major conferences during the paper
review process. This semester, you will get to be a program
committee member for a fictional conference in which all
papers have already been published  :).

                    I REVIEW COMPONENTS

The review has three parts, each of which is mandatory and
described next:

1. MAIN STRENTGHS (3+ STRENGTHS, 2-3 SENTENCES DESCRIBING EACH):

Include a list of three or more strengths or key contributions of
the paper. For each strength, describe it and explain why it's
important.


2. MAIN WEAKENESSES (3+ WEAKNESSES, 2-3 SENTENCES DESCRIBING EACH):

Include a list of three or more weaknesses of the paper or
limitations of the techniques/results being proposed. For each
weakness, describe it briefly and give some idea for how one
might address it, if addressable.


3. INTERESTING DISCUSSION POINTS (3+ POINTS, ONE LINE EACH):

Include a list of three or more discussion points that you would
like addressed in class. You can include here the main weaknesses
you've identified, ideas for follow-on work, new applications of
the technology in a different domain, etc. List must *not* be a
mere re-hashing of the strengths/weaknesses lists.


                  II. SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

The HotCRP URL is http://ec2-54-200-83-74.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/index.php.
The TA has created accounts for each of you. Please check your
Columbia Lionmail for username and password. Note that the email 
may be in the Spam box with title "[COMS E6998-2] New account
information". If you have not yet received it, please let the TA
know and he will send the account information to you again.

For each paper discussed in class, you must submit a review for
it by 12pm (noon) on the day the paper is presented. Log onto the
HotCRP system at the above URL, and click the "any submitted paper"
link, and then you can see all the papers available. Select the
paper you want to review, write the review and then submit it. The
submission page is quite self-explanatory. After you submit your
review, we highly recommend that you also view other students'
reviews.

The paper's presenter is required to read the reviews and include
the most interesting topics for discussion at the end of their
presentation, so that students can discuss those.

As you might already realize, your reviews will be made visible
to the instructor, TA, and all of your colleagues in the class.
The reviews are not made available outside the context of this
class.
