Hints for the short presentations September 26 and October 10
- What to present: Present your past research (if any) if you
think it is interesting to the group and/or relevant to your future research,
and present your future research -- what you intend to do in the next year(s),
or what your research interests are if you have not yet exactly decided what
to do.
- Level of specificity: Name approaches you have taken/might take
("decision trees", "noisy channel model"), perhaps give highlights of results,
but do not give technical detail, or detailed results. Do not (in genreal)
present formulas.
- Time: You do not need to fill your slot, but you can't take
more than your allocated time.
- Slides: If you have a 3 minute presentation, you do not need
to use slides. Otherwise, it is highly suggested. Do not put
material on slides you do not intend to discuss, do not expect the audience
to read material while you are talking. Do use sans-serif fonts, always
larger than 24 points, do use black-on-white rather than inverse.
- Technical details: If you are using slides, I will ask you to
install them on the PC in the room we are meeting in in advance. Details
about this to follow.
