About me

My name is Orestis Polychroniou and I am a PhD candidate at the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University in the city of New York. I started my PhD on September 2011 under the supervision of professor Kenneth A. Ross and I am part of the Columbia database research group.

My research area is database systems and more specifically hardware conscious database system implementation. I am interested in efficient query execution for analytical workloads using advanced hardware features such as thread (multi-core & multi-CPU) parallelization, memory hierarchy awareness (CPU caches, RAM, NUMA interconnection), data parallelization and CPU pipeline efficiency through SIMD vectorization, and network optimization for distributed parallel databases.

You can find my CV here.

I defended my PhD thesis on September of 2017! I am now working at Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Palo Alto.
