Collaboration on User Studies for the Mobile Journalist Workstation

As part of a new effort to integrate technologies under development under the Digital Library Research program at Columbia University, there is a new collaboration between the Center for New Media in the School of Journalism, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Center for Research on Information Access. We are performing a user study on the way journalists utilize on-line information sources.

The purpose of the study is to determine how users access on-line information, what are their responses to the information overload phenomenon, and what kinds of tools they might find useful to alleviate the problem.

John Pavlik, Jonathon Shapiro, Kathleen McKeown, and Judith Klavans are working together with students to record their query session and gather user data. This site will keep an update of our progress.
