Given below is a sentence with a prepositional phrase marked in red. Your task is to pick the phrase that is being modified by the given prepositional phrase.(Hovering over an answer will highlight it in the sentence).
You are always required to choose an answer; however if you feel that the correct answer is not among the options or that the prepositional phrase is not well constructed, please let us know using the link below the options (see examples 4 and 5).
NOTE: In either case you must pick one option for the answer to be considered valid.
Consider the sentences below:
1)We went to John's house on Saturday.
Here "on Saturday" is a prepositional phrase and it attaches with the verb "went".
If we modify this sentence to
2) We went to John's house on 12th Street.
Then here the prepositional phrase "on 12th Street" attaches with the noun "John's house".
Notice how attaching to a different part of sentence changes the meaning of the sentence. For example, if we say in the 1st sentence, "on Saturday" attaches with John's house it would mean that John's house is on some street named Saturday (or something similar).
Consider another sentence :
3) He was green with envy.
In this case the prepositional phrase 'with envy' attaches with the adjective 'green'.
