Weekly Posts
Each week there will be reading assignments posted on the
course website.
The readings will be from the Jurafsky & Martin textbook or from
conference and journal articles related to the weekly course topic. Readings
are required unless marked as optional.
For each required reading, students should post on
A short paragraph including one positive and one negative aspect
about each of the readings (for each chapter/article). Both the positive and the negative must be
explained in several sentences.
For some weeks, you will be asked to find a new, fairly recent
article on the topic, provide its location, abstract and full bibliographical entry,
and explain why you think this would be a good article to add to the readings
for next year. For other weeks you will
be asked to provide an inciteful and potentially challenging question about any
one of the articles you read.
The deadline for the post on courseworks is Sunday at 11:59pm each week.
Posts will be graded with the following scale:
4 exceeds expectations
3 fulfills all requirements and
shows critical thinking
2 missing some requirements (e.g. did not post for all readings)
1 very sketchy
0 not submitted
The submission link will remain open until Monday at 3pm.
Submissions received after 11:59am on Sunday but before 3pm on
Monday (late posts) will lose one point. Submissions will not be accepted
after the late period and will receive a grade of zero.
