From: The IESG To: IETF-Announce Message-Id: Date: Mon, 19 Dec 2005 17:15:42 -0500 Cc: avt chair , avt chair , Internet Architecture Board , avt mailing list , RFC Editor Subject: Protocol Action: 'Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) Payload Format for the Variable-Rate Multimode Wideband (VMR-WB) Extension Audio Codec' to Proposed Standard The IESG has approved the following document: - 'Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) Payload Format for the Variable-Rate Multimode Wideband (VMR-WB) Extension Audio Codec ' as a Proposed Standard This document is the product of the Audio/Video Transport Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Allison Mankin and Jon Peterson. A URL of this Internet-Draft is: http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-avt-rtp-vmr-wb-extension-02.txt-0 2.txt Technical Summary This document is an addendum to draft-ietf-avt-rtp-vmr-wb-11.txt, which specifies the RTP payload format for the VMR-WB speech codec. This draft updates some tables in that draft to enable support for the new operating mode of VMR-WB standard (i.e., VMR-WB mode 4), as defined by 3GPP2. These updates do not affect the existing modes of VMR-WB. Working Group Summary This is a simple, non-controversial extension to an existing format, to catch up with changes in 3GPP2. 3GPP2 has chosen to use the IETF process for this media type rather than a 3GPP2 standards tree review because VMR-WB is viewed has needing review by the AVT working group that merits the RFC publication. Protocol Quality The quality was easy to obtain as these are trivial additions to the tables in a previously approved document. The Responsible Area Director is Allison Mankin. The WG Chair shepherd is Colin Perkins. Note to the RFC Editor OLD: 7. IANA Considerations None NEW: 7. IANA Considerations This document updates the media type registered in [2]. IANA needs to add this document as reference to that media type registration and needs to modify the optional parameter mode-set in the registration. Currently it reads: Currently, this list includes modes 0,1,2, and 3 [1] but MAY be extended in the future. If such mode-set is specified during session initiation, the encoder MUST NOT use modes outside of the subset. If not present, all operating modes in the set 0 to 3 are allowed for the session. IANA needs to Change "modes 0,1,2 and 3 [1]" to "modes 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 [1][2]" and change "modes in the set 0 to 3" to "modes in the set 0 to 4" - [1] will be IANA's reference to the original VMR-WB document and [2] will be IANA's reference to the present document. Note to IANA An IANA action is needed which was implicit in the document if the existing media type registration was reviewed. See the Note to the RFC Editor above.
