| The borough of Leonia (official page) in New
Jersey, pop. 8365,
is just across George
Washington Bridge spanning the Hudson river from Manhattan, at
latitude 40.85790 N, longitude 73.98857 W. You can see our home from very
far away and get directions.
The New
York Times gives some of the history Leonia, as well as how much you
have to spend to live here. (The George Washington Bridge is the most
heavily travelled bridge in the United States, with 126,000
motorists crossing the bridge eastbound each weekday.)
Note that Finland's old Postipankki (postal savings bank) is now also
called Leonia. I visited them and
they wrote an article about it in
their newsletter...

- From Upper Manhattan:
- After crossing the George Washington Bridge, stay in the left lanes
and take Rt. 1/9/46 to first exit on your right, marked "Leonia, Fort
Lee". Turn right onto Fort Lee Road. Follow Fort Lee Road until it
intersects at a traffic light with Broad Avenue. Provident Bank is
across the street on your right. Turn left; turn left again at the 2nd
street, Westview Avenue. Our house (313) is the third house on the
left, a brick-faced Tudor-style. It should take you about 20 minutes
from upper Manhattan.
- From Interstate 95:
- Take the Leonia (Rt. 93) exit, after following signs for the George
Washington Bridge. This is Exit 70A, just after the Overpeck Center and
the Ridgefields exit. After some more exit ramps, you end up on Fort
Lee Road, which you take for a few hundred yards. After crossing
railroad tracks, continue straight across the next intersection (with
Grand Avenue) until you reach the next traffic light, at Broad Avenue.
(A Provident Bank is at your left.) Turn right onto Broad Avenue and
turn left into the third street, Westview. Our house (313) is the third
house on the left, a brick-faced Tudor-style.
- By subway/bus:
- Take the A train to 186th Street (GWB Bus Terminal) and then the #182 NJ
Transit Bus to the intersection of Ft. Lee Road and Broad Avenue.
Walk on Broad Avenue past the Met Grocery Store and the Anna C. Scott
Elementary School on your left to Westview Avenue (second street, after
Allaire). House is on your left when walking up the street.

| We have recently lived in Berlin,
Germany (view from my
former office) (about 3968 miles (6386 km) away
from our current home), Stirling, New
Jersey, Amherst, Massachusetts, and Cincinnati, Ohio.
My parents are involved with the German-Finnish
Society in Cologne. (The name "Rinne" is Finnish for mountainside,
hillside, incline and is quite common in Finland and in a small area
of northern Germany; our Finnish forebears probably stayed behind after
the Swedish army fighting the 30-Years War (1618-1648) left Holstein in
Northern Germany again.)

| Our son, Nathan Paavo was born in 1991,
our daugher Ilta Rachel in 1997.
