This can be taken as a 4901 or 6901 project. I will also accept exceptionally motivated 3998 students.
The syllabus is complete and much of the basics of the class exist. Some of this can be viewed at http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~dsturman/cs6998-8/
The students in the seminar will do the following:
This will be a practical seminar to improve the content of an existing course. It will be closely guided with clear deliverables.
My goal for the seminar is to have a complete class that I or most anyone else could teach. The class could stand alone or be part of a larger video game curriculum.
Students will benefit by learning the subject matter and gain experience in developing a class.
We will meet occasionally in the evening for progress updates and discussion, but most of the work will be conducted through electronic communications and shared online workspace. Participants will have a job to do and be expected to perform it well to receive a good grade.
Enrollment is limited to five or six motivated individuals. There may also be an opportunity to TA the class itself when it is given in the Fall'06 semester.
Students will earn up to 3 credits and will be expected to commit about 10 hours per week to the project.
Students must have a grounding in C++. Computer graphics knowledge will be useful, as will an interest in video games. Expect to work.
