Baritone Drexel Hallaway, sounding in particularly good voice, was paired with tenor Felix Santiago Sunday night in the funny, short, period musical Cox and Box, presented by the Gilbert and Sullivan Society at the Henry M. Flagler Museum.

This mini-musical, played against a slight set in the West Room of the museum, allowed these two performers to act out the absurd story of the two men who share rooms unbeknownst to themselves, who gradually discover they are not only roommates but engaged to the same woman, and finally, brothers.  Hallaway and Santiago were both in excellent voice, both managed to Anglicize their vowels and seemed to enjoy the piece as much as their audience.

The other point of interest in the Sunday performance was what it says about our local productions.  Hallaway has an outstanding voice that has won him top honors in the Palm Beach Opera auditions and numerous supporting roles in the opera's productions here.  He and Santiago also perform with opera director Anton Guadagno in the smaller Pomeriggio productions at the Flagler.

These local, working musicians and theater people, who mix an match according to need, are developing several excellent varieties of local theater and are a tribute to the way the performing arts are evolving here.
