Announcements

  • (12/1) Exam 2 logistics. There will be a review session next week (Wed Dec 7, 1:10 PM–2:25 PM in 501 NWC). It will be recorded by CVN.

  • (11/6) HW5 is posted.

  • (10/16) Exam 1 logistics.

  • (10/13) HW4 is posted (but not due until well after Exam 1).

  • (10/12) On HW3, Problem 3b is optional (extra credit, value to-be-determined). It turns out to be a bit more involved than we intended!

  • (10/9) On HW3, if you are having difficulty using all of the training data, you can just use the first 200000 training examples in the file. If you do this, you must do it for all of the learning methods and feature representations, and write very clearly in your write-up that you are doing this.

  • (10/6) Small change to Problem 1 of HW3: “We say \(\boldsymbol\phi\) affects the learning algorithm if, there is a set of training data \(S\) such that the classifier \(\hat f_S\) is not the same as \(\boldsymbol{x} \mapsto \tilde f_{S'}(\boldsymbol\phi(\boldsymbol{x}))\).”

  • (10/4) HW3 is posted.

  • (9/22) HW2 is posted.

  • (9/19) Ashu will hold a Python “review session” tomorrow evening (Tue, Sep 20, 8 PM–9 PM) in the CLIC lab. Come with questions!

  • (9/12) HW1 is posted.

  • (9/8) The date of the first exam has been changed to Wednesday, October 19 to avoid conflict with a cultural/religious holiday.

  • (9/7) If you are not yet enrolled in the class by the deadline for HW0, but wish to submit it, you may e-mail your write-up as an attachment to coms4772 at gmail dot com (yes, that’s a “2”, not a “1”). You must write “COMS4771” in the subject of the e-mail.

  • (9/7) Welcome! See information about enrollment.
