If you are behind a NAT router or firewall you will need to follow steps 1-12. If your NAT router or firewall has a dynamic IP address, steps 9 - 12 will have to be repeated each time your IP address changes. |

If you are on the open network follow step 1-8 only. ( i.e. the CS Network ) |

If you are unsure follow steps 1-12. |
| To install the 3com Convergence Client, please follow the steps below: |
|
1. Download the installer app3client22.exe from here. (Download the lastest installer app3client27.exe from here)
|
|
| 2. Run the installer, following the onscreen instructions. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Choosing otherwise has resulted in the client crashing upon launch. Install specifically for this application in order to avoid this problem.
|
|
|
|
| 3. Reboot your PC when asked. |
|
| 4. After your PC is restarted, Go to Start Menu--> |
| 5. All Programs--> |
| 6. 3Com Convergence Center Client--> Convergence Center Client |
| 7. **IMPORTANT STEP** - When prompted for auto-configure url, enter 'http://128.59.23.16/presconf/master.xml'. |
|
|
| 8. Enter your username and password, click 'ok'. |
| username: sip:XXXX@128.59.23.13 (i.e. sip:1234@128.59.23.13) |
| Where XXXX is your four digit extension |
| password: XXXXXX |
| Where XXXXXX is your registration password. Please contact jp@cs.columbia.edu for your registration password. |

| 9. One configuration change will have to be made if you are behind a natted router. You will have to retrieve your IP address. The easy way to get your IP address is to open up a web browser to: |
| http://www.whatsmyip.org/ |
| At the very top it says: |
| 'Your IP Address is XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX' |
| filled in with your ip address, take note of it. |
| 10. Now go back to the 3Com client. At the menu bar on top, click on 'Tools' and scroll down to 'Options'. A new window will open. Scroll down to 'Sip Stack Settings' and click on it. To the right a small table will appear. It will display: |
| Friendly Name - with no parameters |
| Nat Static Address - with no parameters. |
| Click on the empty part next to the box and enter the IP address noted down from whatsmyip.org. |
| Primary Proxy -128.59.23.13 |
| Primary Proxy Port - 5060 |
| ***In step 10 - just the 'Nat Static Address' should have to be filled in by you**** |
| Then click on the 'close' button on the bottom right, next to the 'help' button. |
|
| **IMPORTANT STEP** |
| 11. You must exit the 3Com application and restart it again for it to work properly. On your taskbar in the bottom right portion of the screen right click on the 3Com Icon and then click exit. |
|
12. Open the client again and enter your password. If your audio equipment is configured properly, you will be ready to make and receive phone calls. |
