Christina Leslie

I am a Research Scientist at the Center for Computational Learning Systems, a new research center affiliated with the Department of Computer Science in the School of Engineering at Columbia University.

Research

Computational Biology and Machine Learning. My research involves applying machine learning and data mining techniques -- like support vector machines, kernel methods, and probabilistic modeling -- to analyze biological data, including protein and DNA sequences and gene expression data from microarray experiments.

Publications

Educational and Professional Activities

Computational Biology at Columbia. I am involved in a number of initiatives to promote research and educational activities in Computational Biology, in particular through the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
Bioinformatics Workshops. I am a co-organizer of the NIPS Computational Biology Workshop. I was also co-organizer of the DIMACS Workshop on Machine Learning Approaches for Understanding Gene Regulation, which took place in August 2005.
Courses. I developed and taught a graduate-level course on machine learning methods in computational biology: CBMF/COMS 4761: Computational Genomics (Spring 2004).
Research Projects for Students. Graduate and undergraduate students who would like to be involved in research projects with the Computational Biology Group are encouraged to contact me.
