Advanced Multimedia and Presence Services using Classical and P2P SIP Initially, Internet multimedia services focused on either replicating the existing telephone services or small-group video conferences. While there remain a number of open issues in achieving feature parity for open-standard, Internet-based multimedia systems, we can now start to look beyond this base level of functionality. In this talk, I will discuss new developments in advanced services, including: - Service mobility provides the ability to move sessions across both mobile and stationary devices, splitting and merging sessions to make best use of locally-available resources. - Rich presence, which provides a much better indication of the desirability of communication than the current ring-and-hope model. - Peer-to-peer SIP, which offers the opportunity to combine largely infrastructureless multimedia, IM and presence systems with more traditional server-based environments - Standards-based application sharing, which fills one of the remaining large holes in the IETF-based collaboration architecture. Most of these efforts are being discussed in various IETF working groups.
