On Improving Data Dissemination Throughput in Application-Layer Overlay Networks Baochun Li In this talk, we investigate various approaches to increase the throughput of a particular data dissemination session by the construction of higher-quality topologies used for such dissemination. We propose distributed algorithms that seek to significantly improve end-to-end session throughput in typical dissemination sessions.   This objective may be achieved by taking advantage of the capability of overlay nodes to perform simple linear coding.  To this end, we seek to construct multiple data paths towards the receivers of the dissemination session, and utilize network coding to resolve interfering data paths in the generated topologies.  This is feasible since the overlay topologies are entirely malleable for the sake of improved performance.  We present simulation-based experimental results to demonstrate the validity of our proposed algorithms.
