NeVoT Planned Enhancements
It would be desirable to decouple the audio recording and playback
functions, including AGC and volume (VU) display, and create a
separate ``tape recorder'' tool. Creating an ``audio bus'' similar to
that found in professional mixers is probably the best long-term
design alternative.
Other possible ideas awaiting implementation:
- Port to Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD.
- Port to AudioFile or the NCD Network Audio System.
- SNMP management interface (to monitor QoS parameters).
- Achieve audio and video synchronization using RTP timestamps and
pmm.
- Stereo location of audio sources (Botr8604:Stereophonic,
Moor90:Elements, Kane8911:Multi, Blau83:Spatial, Masa9203:Promising,
Pope9212:Building).
- Echo suppression and/or cancellation (Weis9106:Advanced), using
either the workstation CPU or the external digital signal processors.
- Implement GSM silence suppression (Hell9304:Unterbrochene).
- Encoding of recorded audio files.
- Distributed (prioritized FCFS) or centralized (token) floor
control using session control packets.
- True LPC-10 audio encoding.
- Drag-and-drop for audio output files
- Transparent switch from unicast UDP to multicast UDP if conference
expands beyond two parties.
- Display mugshot of users instead of names, using GIF files.
Mugshots could be derived either from SDES packets or a URL.
