M.S. Graduation

  • When you know when you are planning on graduating, you need to complete two forms:  the Registrar's Application for Degree and the SEAS Graduation Clearance form.
  • The Registrar's form is available here.
    • The deadline for submitting this form for February degree conferral is in early November, for May conferral, early December, and for October conferral, early August.  Specific dates each year can be found on the Registrar's webpage.
    • Fill out the form online, print and sign it, and submit it directly to the Registrar's Office in Kent Hall:
MS Graduation 1
  1. Enter your name, UNI, and 9-digit PID (available on your SSOL account).
  2. Enter the month and year you plan to graduate in.
  3. Enter the semester you took the core and track required courses you have completed.
  4. If you have any approved core or required course waivers, check the "Waiver Approved" box and enter the course you took instead for each one, including the semester you took the replacement.
  5. Enter the track electives and general electives you have taken, including semester and number of credits for each.
  6. Only enter those courses that you took at Columbia and that you are using towards your M.S. degree. Do not enter any courses you took elsewhere, any undergraduate (3000-level) courses, graduate-level courses that you took for Pass/Fail or for R credit, graduate-level courses that you received UW.
  7. If you have IN (Incomplete) or CP (Credit Pending), you must resolve them in order to graduate.
  8. Email your completed form to .*

* If you do not submit the form, the Computer Science Student Services will create your program plan as we see fit. If you have specific ways you want to allocate your courses, we highly recommend you to submit your own program plan.

  • Do not get the SEAS graduation clearance form signed by your faculty advisor and please only submit it electronically.
  • Once your paperwork has been processed, you will be added to the list of graduating students for that graduation cycle.
    • If you are cleared for graduation at the department level, you will be notified via autmatic email from the MICE system.
    • If you are not cleared at the department level, you will be notified of the reasons why via email.
    • If you change you mind about graduating on a certain date, please notify SEAS Graduate Student Services.  You will automatically be rolled over to the next graduation cycle and you do not need to resubmit your Application for Degree.
    • SEAS will notify you of your official university graduation clearance.
    • Diplomas are mailed to graduated students by the Registrar's Diploma Division.
