SOFTWARE LICENSES
The department purchases and maintains a number of licenses for public
and commercial software.
Operating Systems
- Microsoft Windows.
Through MSDN-AA, we have a departmental license for current versions of windows.
- Solaris.
We have a departmental license for Solaris.
Drawing and Graphics
- IslandWrite,
Draw, Paint. ($500/license, $180/support, $4K/20-pack)
We have three licenses covering both SunOs and Solaris.
Note: CS will be discontinuing use of the Island Office package in the near future.
Desktop Publishing / Editors
- FrameMaker.
- Transcript.
This package includes a number of utilities and files for
postscript printing, including enscript. We paid $700 to AcIS for our
share of the university wide license.
- Microsoft Office XP.
We have 100 individual user licenses.
Programming Tools
- SunPro.
These are the standard Sun tools such as languages and compilers, available
for Solaris/SPARC and Intel in /opt/SUNWspro.
- ATT's Cfront.
The most popular C++ compiler that comes from the originating
source.
- Sicstus Prolog.
Reasonable implementation of Prolog, requiring written license
(about $250 US). (belongs to Kathleen McKeown).
Engineering Tools
- SPlus.
Statistic Environment
- Mathematica.
Mathematics Environment
We currently hold 4 licenses for Solaris (?? maybe other OS's
can use the same license manager -- needs to be checked).
- Matlab.
We have licenses for solaris, linux and windows.
DBMS
Teaching Tools
- VMWare.
We have licenses to run vmware in the CLIC lab for teaching the OS course.
Other
- Xwin32.
Xserver for windows. We have an unlimited departmental license.
- Legato Networker.
Tape backup software.
